Financial Aid Process

Aultman College participates in the Federal Direct Loan Program, which allows students to borrow directly from the federal government through our Financial Aid Office.

Accepting Your Loan

  • Students should accept or decline all or part of their loan through the Financial Aid Office.
  • Once accepted, the Financial Aid Office will process the loan.

First-Time Borrowers

If this is your first time borrowing a Direct Loan, you must:

  • Sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) this is a legal agreement to repay your loan.
  • Complete Loan Entrance Counseling this explains your rights and responsibilities as a borrower.

Both the MPN and entrance counseling are completed at StudentLoans.gov.

How the Process Works

File the FAFSA

  • Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Aultman College school code: 006487

Student Aid Report (SAR)

  • After submitting the FAFSA, you’ll receive your SAR electronically.
  • Keep this for your records.
  • Corrections can be made online at fafsa.gov.

FAFSA Data Received by Aultman College

  • The Financial Aid Office receives your FAFSA results electronically.
  • You may be asked to provide additional documents. Contact us at finaid@aultmancollege.edu with questions.

Financial Aid Award Notification

  • Award letters are emailed to students who qualify for financial aid.
  • You must accept or decline your aid award and return it to the Financial Aid Office.
  • Gift aid (grants, scholarships, institutional aid) is automatically applied.

Final Step: Account Credit & Refunds

  • Once your file is complete and enrollment requirements are met, accepted financial aid is credited to your student account (usually mid-semester).
  • If there’s a remaining credit after charges are paid, a refund is issued.
  • If a balance remains after aid is applied, you are responsible for payment. Balances are due at the start of each semester, and payment options are available.
